Never thought I'd be blogging....Hello World.

My name is Noel Munoz and I cannot believe I am blogging. I am 38 year old Marine veteran. I was born in Chihuahua, Mexico but grew up in Las Vegas. I came to this city when I was only one year old, so I don't have any memories of Mexico apart from the ones from visiting a handful of times as a kid. I enlisted at age 17 and served 10 years in the United States Marine Corps. After my service, I earned my Associate degree in Radiologic Sciences at Pima Medical Institute in 2018. I currently work in interventional radiology at the veteran's hospital in North Las Vegas. Now I'm enrolled at CSN to earn my Associate of Applied Science degree in Real Estate.

I'm not gonna lie about my first impression about IS101 at CSN. I thought it was going to be a pretty simple class about software and computers but boy was I wrong. I don't think I have been this engaged in a class setting right off the bat like I have been. I don't say this in a negative way because I love a challenge. There is a lot more to Microsoft programs than I thought I knew. I look forward to what lies ahead and to the challenges still to come.

The skill I selected is 1.3.6 Gmail and Google calendar. Before I started at my current job, I had never used my Google calendar or Gmail. As a matter of fact, my wife has used Google calendar consistently for appointments and tried to show me but I really didn't get a grasp of it until I started to take call at my job and we needed to keep track of those days so as not to book things on the weeks where I had the possibility of working late or being called in after hours. As soon as I make an appointment or pick up call, I enter it into Google and I'm set. Can't believe I never simplified my life before.

  1. Thank you for your 10 years of military service in the USMC, Noel ^_^

Yes, I like to start a course strong and conclude even stronger at the end of the semester. You will do the same!

At the end of Phase 1 in IS101-3205, Spring 2025, you lead your classmates in progress of the coursework, well done Noel!!

With more knowledge & skills coming in future phases, I can see you not only further simplify things in your life but do them more effectively and professionally :-)

  2. Noel, thank you for your service! Your journey is inspiring, from the Marines to radiology and now real estate. I can relate to underestimating a class—IS101 is definitely more engaging than expected! Also, it’s great to see how Google Calendar has simplified your life. Wishing you success this semester! ^-^

  3. Hello Noel, thank you for your 10 years of service! I have a younger sister who did four years in the Navy, and all I can say is both of you guys are very brave for serving our Country. I felt the same way you did about this class. I honestly thought this class would be a piece of cake since I thought I knew my way around computers, but clearly, there's a proper way of doing things, and while taking this class, I am soaking up all the information needed to succeed in the future. It's funny that my wife also uses Google Calendar, especially for upcoming appointments for my daughter or personal things, and she constantly has to remind me to check the calendar. This was an ongoing battle of ours until I caved in and learned how to use the application. Ahah

I know you will succeed in earning your Associate of Applied Science degree in real estate just by how well you manage your schoolwork.

  4. Hi Noel! Thank you for your service! It is inspiring to see you continuing your education for a degree after accomplishing so much!

I share the same sentiment of thinking this class is more engaging than I expected it to be. I have used Microsoft applications everyday for the last 6 years for work (not counting all the times I have used it for school). I find myself learning new things that I didn't even know was possible in Word.

While I don't use Google calendar, I do use the calendar on my phone and a calendar in my work software and it really does make life so much easier! No more writing down appointments to stick to the fridge!

I wish you all the success in IS101 and earning your degree!

  5. Hey Noel! I like the title of your first blog post. Thank you for your years of service!

I had the same first impression of IS101. Like you, I do enjoy the challenge and more engaging tasks that Professor Wu has for us.

That was a great skill that you shared with using Gmail and Google calendar. I have never used Google calendar even though I have Gmail as my primary email account, so I am going to have to check it out and see what other features it has to offer compared to using Apple calendar on my iPhone.

  6. Hi Noel, thank you for your service, you are an inspiration to many.

My experience with IS101 is also similar to yours. It's a class that you have to stay on top off in order to succeed, and I am realizing that now.

Its great that you are using Google calendar in your daily routine and making sure that your schedule is organized.

  8. Hello Noel, I want to start off by thanking you for your service.

Like you, I am new to blogging. Although I am on social media, I have never blogged before. This is all a new experience, and I hope we all, as a class, gain something new from this. There are many little fixes and tips that we are unaware of that make our lives a lot easier. I have not used Google Calendar, but I must try it to keep my schedule organized so that I don't miss or forget anything.

  9. Hi Noel!

First off, thank you so much for your service. Serving in the Marine Corps sounds intense, but the fact that you stuck with it for ten years is truly admirable. So again, thank you. It’s also impressive that you’re choosing to study again, especially after radiology—not many people can say that, so kudos to you!

I do have a question, though. I noticed you mentioned visiting Chihuahua a couple of times, so what would you recommend for a first-time visitor? I’ve always wanted to see Mexico for myself, and I’ve heard there are some really cool things to check out.

I think I speak for many of your classmates when I say you’ll take this course like it’s a piece of cake. Keep on trucking!

  10. Hi Noel,

I agree with you, I also thought this class would be easy since I use these applications frequently. However, the reality is that I didn’t realize how much more I could do with them. I’m definitely looking forward to working on the Excel lab sections. By the end of this class, I’m sure you’ll be able to share all your newfound knowledge with your wife, and I’m sure she’ll be surprised.

  11. Hey there Noel, nice to meet you. Thank you for your service, I honestly have so much respect for marines, my older Brother enlisted like 2 years ago and has been stationed in Okinawa right now, so it's cool to meet a new marine.

  12. Hi Noel,
Thank you for your service! Some of my family served in the Army and some in the Marines. Hearing their stories and what they were exposed to adds to my level of appreciation for those who serve our country.

Like you, I came in with the expectation that this class was going to be a simple computer class - I was also mistaken. I do on the other hand appreciate the level of depth this class has and understand what Mr. Wu expects from us. I never engaged so much with my professor before, I appreciate how available he makes himself to his students.

  13. Hey Noel,

It’s awesome to see you diving into blogging! First off, thank you for your service—10 years in the Marine Corps is no small feat. Your journey from the military to radiology and now real estate is really inspiring. It’s great to see someone constantly learning and pushing themselves to grow in different fields.

I totally get what you mean about first impressions of a class. Sometimes, we think it’ll be a breeze, and then we realize there’s so much more to it! Sounds like IS101 is keeping you engaged, which is always a good thing—learning new tech skills can only benefit you in the long run, especially in real estate.

As for Google Calendar and Gmail, it's funny how we sometimes overlook tools that can make life so much easier. Sounds like it’s become a game-changer for you! I might have to take a page out of your book and start using it more effectively myself. Looking forward to reading more about your journey—keep up the great work!

  14. Hi Noel,

I want to say thank you for your service! My dad has served in the Air Force for over 30 years now so I totally understand what it's like being active duty. I am also doing this to work towards getting licensed in Real Estate as well. I totally agree that when I started the class I was expecting something totally different as well and not in a bad way either. I never thought to use google calendar for my jobs either, great idea.

  15. HI Noel thank you for your service,
My brother is also a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and he is getting deployed to Okinawa next week. I'm glad to see that someone else was also surprised by how challenging this class is, but it is my favorite class and I have already learned so many useful tip so far.

  16. Hi Noel, it’s funny how you mentioned that you couldn’t believe you were blogging, I felt the same way. Thank you for your service Sir! I like when people go back to school, I feel like there’s so much to do and learn in life. I changed my major three times but now I’m sticking to my major just because I know that’s what I really want.

I felt the same way, it’s a lot of simple tasks but it becomes overwhelming when you let it pile up, like I have. Won’t be doing that again, it just causes more stress. Definitely so much learning and skills out of it.

Glad it got easier for you to use Google calendar. I’m sure your wife is happy that you use it now, she was only trying to make your life a little easier and the older we get the easier the better.

  17. Hi Noel,

Google calendar is an amazing tool that I used throughout high school. I have also found this class very useful. Most importantly thank you for your service.

  18. Hi Noel! I think it is so interesting that you were in the military for that long. I also think it is cool that eventually you learned at Pima something that in a way you can "give back" to the military. I kind of did the same. I went through a rough accident when I was young and it affected me a lot neurologically. Nowadays I work at a neurology center as a phlebotomist.
